Ohio State Highway Patrol to Implement Operation T.R.I.A.D.D. in Partnership With the Columbus Police Department

COLUMBUS – Troopers with the Ohio State Highway Patrol (OSHP) will be joining the Columbus Police Department to target reckless, intimidating, aggressive and distracted driving behaviors with a concentrated effort in Central Ohio.

Operation T.R.I.A.D.D. was implemented on February 1, 2017 to deter aggressive and dangerous driving on Ohio’s roadways through collaborated target enforcement and public awareness so as to reduce traffic fatalities and encourage a safe driving environment for all motorists.

Incidents of highway crashes involving reckless, intimidating, and aggressive driving behaviors have become a nationwide epidemic. According to the AAA Foundation for Traffic Safety, aggressive driving accounts for more than half of all traffic fatalities. Traffic deaths rose 13 percent during 2015 and 2016 combined.

According to the 2015 NHTSA Motor Vehicle Crash Overview, fatal crashes related to distracted driving have increased from 3,197 to 3,477 (280), or 8.8 percent.

The T.R.I.A.D.D. operation is a dual law enforcement partnership aimed at providing combined and coordinated law enforcement efforts focused to reduce traffic fatalities and deter distracted driving.

The Patrol reminds citizens and motorists to contact the Patrol by calling #677 to report impaired drivers, unsafe drivers or illegal activity.
