Winter-Spring Storytime Registration Open at Public Library of Mount Vernon and Knox County

Registration is open for Winter-Spring Storytime at the Public Library of Mount Vernon and Knox County, 201 N. Mulberry Street. Sessions will begin on Monday, January 23, and run through April.

Storytime days and times will be as follows:

Two and Early Threes:  Mondays or Thursdays at 9:30 or 10:30 a.m.

Preschool and Kindergarten Storytime with Miss Erica:  Tuesdays at 10:00 or 1:00

Baby Storyland for Babies up to 24 months and their Caregivers:  Wednesdays at 10:00 a.m.

Midweek Adventures for mixed ages:  Wednesdays at 1:00 p.m.

Family Storytime: Thursday evenings at 6:30:  March 9 & 23, April 6 & 20

Shared reading is the single most important way to help children get ready to read. Learn how to engage your children in simple activities every day that will help them develop early literacy skills to prepare them to get ready to read.  These activities or practices are talking, singing, reading, writing and playing.

Babies and their caregivers will enjoy short books, rhymes, songs and plenty of play time after Baby Storyland.  Storytime for Twos and Threes will include brief stories and more movement activities along with a simple craft.  Programs for preschoolers and older children will include longer stories, activities and crafts.

In addition,  the 1KB4K program will continue throughout the year at all library locations. The 1KB4K program at the Public Library of Mount Vernon & Knox County encourages you to read 1000 books together before your child enters kindergarten.  One of the best ways to promote learning is to spend time reading every day.  New participants receive a free book bag and first reading log.  After finishing 1000 books, your child will have earned a certificate and a free book from a local bookstore courtesy of the Friends of the Library.

Parents may register their children for storytime or for the 1KB4K program by calling the Youth Services Department, 740-392-BOOK (2665) ext. 248, or by stopping by the Youth Services Desk on the second level of the main library in Mount Vernon. Registration will remain open until sessions are full.
