MVNU Engineering Students to Perform Stress Analysis on Bridge

bridge foundation-park

Mount Vernon Nazarene University (MVNU) engineering students will present on the Park’s Lucerne Road Bridge on Dec. 14, from 1:10-3 p.m. in the Jeannie Moore Center on campus (room 132). The main goal of this study is to verify the safety load capacity of the historic bridge. Students will use state-of-the-art computer software ANSYS to perform stress analysis of the entire bridge and draw conclusions as to the safety of the bridge. The presentation is technical in nature but the context and its conclusions are of interest to the general public and should be easily comprehensible. This is part of a course requirement for our junior mechanical engineering students for EGR 3103 Computer Aided Engineering this fall semester.
