MOUNT VERNON – The Office of the Mount Vernon Director of Law announced that Roger W. Legg of Mount Vernon, Ohio was convicted of a single count of Child Endangering on December 1, 2016, in the Mount Vernon Municipal Court. The charge arose out of an incident that occurred around 9:45 am on February 11, 2016. Mr. Legg was watching his 2 ½ year old granddaughter, when she left the house. The air temperature was 9 degree Fahrenheit and the child was only wearing a diaper and pajama bottoms. The child’s cries were heard by Mr. Joshua Jackson, an employee of Central Ohio Farmer’s Co-op who found her and called 911 to summon the police when no one would answer the door at her home. Mr. Legg learned that his granddaughter had left the house when Sgt. Robert K. Morgan of the Mount Vernon Police Department told him.
Director of Law Rob Broeren tried the case to the jury. He presented testimony from Mr. Jackson and Sgt. Morgan. The jury deliberated for less than one-half an hour before returning the guilty verdict. Judge John C. Thatcher ordered a pre-sentence investigation and set sentencing for Friday, January 6, 2017 at 10:30 am.
